For over 10 years Purdy has been a proud sponsor of the PDA Apprentice of the Year award, hosted by the Painting and Decorating Association. This follows Purdy’s ongoing commitment to inspiring the next generation of professional painters and decorators and supporting them throughout their career with a range of quality tools that they can rely on to achieve top results every time.

 

The Apprentice of the Year award is designed to put trainee decorators’ skills to the test with a six-hour long competition where competitors are tasked with replicating a given design. This is a test of each person’s skillset, as well as their ability to work well under pressure and to a set deadline.

 

The 2021 award took on a new format, with the 23 competitors divided into Junior (new entrants to the craft and those progressing towards a Level 2 qualification) and Senior groupings (those working towards a Level 3 qualification) - and tasks were set to test each group’s capabilities. The winners were then announced at this year’s PDA Premier Trophy Awards. The winners were:

 

Junior Winner - Thomas Turner (Alfred Bagnall and Sons (East Midlands) Ltd)

Senior Winner - Nicole Germaine (EQUANS)

Junior Runner Up - Harry Gibbons (Axis Europe PLC)

Joint Senior Runners Up - Elisha Whyte (Bradford Council) and Michael Murphy (Alfred Bagnall and Sons (South Wales) Ltd)
