Entries are now open for our Purdy Mentor of the Year competition 2024. 

This unique competition is designed to reward mentors in the industry who inspire the next generation of professional decorators. We want to recognise mentors who positively impact those learning the trade, whether they have their own painting and decorating business, manage or train decorators in a firm or lecture at a decorating college.

 

Why is the competition important? 

Our competition recognises mentors for the tireless time and effort they spend educating young industry professionals. Don’t just take our word for it though, this is what our 2023 winners said about winning the award:

James Reeve, of Royal Spa Decoration: “It’s great to get any recognition in this line of work, so to be here picking this up today is great and I feel on top of the world. Thank you very much!” 

Glen Glabraith, lecturer at Doncaster College: “It means so much to me. It’s just a culmination of a lot of hard work behind the scenes, a lot of graft that is unpaid; but it’s all done for the learner and their journey, that’s why we do it.”

 

How does it work?

First, you will need to submit an entry by clicking here and telling us about your mentor and why you admire them. Your nominee will then enter a shortlisting process. If successful, we will invite them to attend a virtual interview where they will further explain what motivates them and how they are providing you with the best skills and work ethic for the job. From this, one professional decorator and one college lecturer will be selected as Purdy Mentor of the Year winners for 2024.

 

What will your mentor win?

Both winners will receive a £1,000 cash prize at our awards lunch – new for this year - held at the Painting and Decorating Show in November. Plus, two runners-up will each receive £500.

 

What will you receive? 

Another new feature for 2024 - everyone who nominates their mentor will receive some free Purdy products. So, whether your mentor wins or not, you will still receive free merchandise to bulk up your toolkit!
