Next up in our Inspiring the Next Generation series is Abi Johnson, Painter and Decorator at Bagnalls Painting Contractors.

 

Abi was drawn to the industry due to her flair for creativity and artistic nature and in 2017 she started her NVQ Level 3 in Construction/Painting and Decorating. Over three years, Abi learnt the technicalities of the trade in the classroom and furthered her skills working on site. In 2018, she was named as the PDA Apprentice of the Year and was awarded the bronze medal for Apprentice Decorator of the Year at Skillbuild UK 2019. 

 

Following her apprenticeship, Abi joined Bagnalls Painting Contractors in 2019 where she has continued to learn and perfect her skillset. Abi believes that to be a professional decorator you need to be patient and enjoy what you are doing.

 

Abi is passionate about encouraging more women to pursue painting and decorating as a career – and says that men and woman are equally capable of taking up a role in the industry.

 

Finally, Abi believes that selecting quality tools is important – especially when cutting in and creating a crisp, neat line. She also says that all of her tools are Purdy as they are reliable and offer the durability needed for professional use.
